Seething Mere

This picture, taken in icy weather during the 1996/7 winter shows the houses that look onto this small pool of water, or "mere". The origin of these ponds may well be the excavation of clay for manufacture of the "clay-lump" building blocks that were once a common feature of many 'peasant houses', stock sheds and barns in south Norfolk.

Feral ducks and geese, Coots and Water Hens are to be found living there but occasionally less common wild birds will put in an appearance and Little Grebes appear for some days every spring.
