The river Wensum

The river Wensum flows through the centre of Norwich and the section from the new mills weir through the city is open to navigation.

Although these days life on the river is dominated by holiday cruise boats and floating restaurants, there is also another side, people live there.

For the past few years the new Riverside complex has grown up on the east bank near the station and soon the other bank is to be developed into a yuppie ghetto and when that happens the river community will be forced out.

These pictures were taken towards the end of 2001 and early 2002, I'll add more later.

The river community at ABC warf. In the distance is Wensum Lodge, the adult education centre, and on the right, the Waterfront music venue. In between them, the old white building is ABC warf and the boats were people live.

Looking the other way, this is where the new bridge is planned to cross the river. When that gets built the other bank will be developed and the community will be dispersed.
